Range Christian, it could have been two scenarios here either he was murdered and the head bandage was staged, thats why he couldn't use the radio. Or perhaps it was an accident but no coverage or like you said ran out of battery with no help eventually died because of his injury and lack of saving himself. And he might have encountered danger in that route either "grizzly bear, mountain lion or something else" that have deterred his route.

So can anyone tell me why Rangers aren’t issued PLB? Especially when they’re in the backcountry? Hell maybe they are now. I’m used to hiking in Australia and always take mine because it’s massive here. Dense foliage, lack of water, too much water, poisonous everything. Leaving the trails potentially suicidal. Rangers do amazing work, keeping them safe seems the best option.

This may sound morbid, but I've thought about walking into the woods, hoping to never be found. I think sometimes people think it's easier on family and friends if they think you are lost and may someday come home than to know you did the unthinkable. I can see the appeal to ending things that way. Maybe he decided it was better to go that route than have someone find him in a bad way.

The guy that came out of the same place Trenny went into is suspicious. If there wasnt a trail and it led to no where why was that guy in there. We know something caught Trennys attention cuz she bent down and looked like something caught her attention before entering but why did that guy go in? Did he see something too? Since her class mates didnt see anything it seems implausible the guy did. Was that guy fully investigated because he was in the exact same place she went missing, strange.

Meanwhile our entire Justice system has let Mr, murdering, raping, kidnapping, etc continue after being caught found guilty then released to be the avid hiker he is and enjoys. He wasn't caught over and over for most of his life stealing can food or gas. No he was a violent, murdering, kid targeting, sex abusing criminal that our system said, " he is a avid hiker ". Free that man our prisons are full of criminals who stole soup, skipped taxes, ran red lights and most importantly resisted arrest and call judges criminals.

If I wanted to ditch my life and start fresh? I'd go to a national park, park my car in the parking lot, walk in a ways, leave my backpack, water bottle, and supplies in a very strategic place... then turn around and walk right back into civilization. Just hightail it to Somewhere Else. 🤔

Washingtonian here...no entrance I've been through into Mt. Rainier National Park has been manned. Some of the nearby campgrounds within and around the park will have a booth with a security gate, but I don't ever recall seeing a gate to enter the park itself.

The Germans found themselves in one of the most terrifying situations I can imagine. The concept of dying of heat while stranded in the desert reaches a deep primal fear in my soul. The hottest I ever experienced was the California heat wave (2014 i think) I was outside in 118°. I tried to go for a short walk and almost lost consciousness just being outside and moving for 15 minutes.

I was once on a narrow mountain trail on Mt Revelstoke, BC Canada, steep bank on one side, boulders below, mountain on the other side, the ground below my foot suddenly gave way and I went down so fast my friend in front of me didn’t even hear me, by some miracle I grabbed a strong tree root and after yelling, my friend pulled me up. It can happen so fast. I don’t like to think how that could have ended if I was hiking alone.
